Fines field descriptions

This page is reference material for the use of the fines data set, within the Open Data Portal.

Below is a brief description of each of the selectable field options available.

Bicycle, toy, etc. - Y/N An indicator for 'Bicycle, Wheeled Toy and other Non-Motor Vehicle' offences
Camera detected offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Camera detected' offences
Camera location code The unique identifier for the approved fixed or mobile camera location (Speed, Red light, Bus and T-way, Over-dimension or Point to Point camera)
Camera location detail The street and suburb for the approved fixed or mobile camera (Speed, Red light, Bus and T-way, Over-dimension or Point to Point camera), and the direction in which it operates
Camera type The type of detection camera
COVID-19 offence - Y/N An indicator for 'COVID 19' offences
Criminal infringement notice - Y/N An indicator for 'Criminal Infringement Notice Scheme' offences
Face value of the fines The fine amount for the offence ($)
Food offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Food Safety' offences
Mobile phone offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Mobile Phone' offences
Offence code A unique identifier for the offence
Offence date The year / month of the offence (defaults to financial year)
Offence description Offence description as defined by relevant legislation
Offence legislation The Legislative Act under which a fine is issued
Offence legislation section and clause The relevant section or clause of the legislation that states the law
Parking offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Parking' offences
Point to point offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Point to Point Camera' offences
Red light camera offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Red Light Camera' offences
School zone - Y/N An indicator for 'School Zone' offences
Seat belt offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Seatbelt' offences
Smoking offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Smoking' offences
Speed camera offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Speed Camera' offences
Speed offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Speeding' offences
Speeding BandThe speed range (also indicates red light offences)
Total $ value of fines The total face value of fines issued ($)
Total number of fines The total number of fines issued
T-Way offence - Y/N An indicator for 'T-Way' offences
Unregistered vehicle offence - Y/N An indicator for 'Unregistered driving' offences
