A Fairer Fines System for NSW – The Fines Amendment Act 2019, effective from 1 July 2020

All the below changes will take effect from 1 July 2020.

More time to manage your fine

Time restrictions have been eased to allow fine customers more time to choose to have their matter heard in court, request a review or nominate the responsible driver.

Easier to pay your fine by instalments

All customers can choose to pay their fines via a payment plan.

Have your fine sent to you digitally

If you choose, we can send your fine notices digitally.

It’s now easier to do the right thing and easier to let us know who was driving  

No matter who owns the vehicle, the responsible driver can now nominate to resolve the fine.

Reduced fine amounts for vulnerable customers in financial hardship

Legislation now allows for customers who are in financial hardship to apply to have their fine amount reduced.

Am I eligible for a 50 per cent reduction in my fine?

  • Are you on a Government benefit?
  • Are you in financial hardship?
  • Have you talked to Revenue NSW about setting up a payment plan and paying your fine over time? Have you been considered by Revenue NSW for a Work and Development Order?

If you answer yes to the above then you may be eligible for a reduction in fine amount, pending assessment of your circumstances by the Commissioner of Fines Administration.
