Your notice of assessment

If you are liable for property tax, you will receive a notice of assessment on or after 1 July, every year until the property is sold.

The assessment period covers the financial year from 1 July to 30 June the following year.

If you need to change your information you can Manage your property tax details online.

What to check

Make sure the following details on your notice of assessment are correct:

  • the recorded property usage
  • any special treatments applied.

If this information is incorrect, update it using the property tax online form before the due date on your notice.

Your payment options and instalment dates are listed on the notice. You do not need to make any payments until at least 30 days after the notice is issued. You can find more information on the Pay your property tax page.

Information included on your notice of assessment

A notice of assessment contains:

  • how much property tax you are liable to pay
  • the payment due date
  • payment options and instalment dates
  • the reason the notice of assessment has been issued
  • the property details and property usage
  • how the property tax amount was assessed
  • any special treatment provisions.

Your notice of assessment contains details, relevant to your situation. The example below shows you what this might look like.

If you own properties that are registered for land tax, they will not appear on your property tax notice of assessment.
