When you receive your land tax assessment notice it provides you with the following options.
Pay in full to receive a discount
If you pay in full by the due date on your notice of assessment (60 days from the issue date), you will receive a 0.5 per cent discount (excluding past interest or penalties).
From the 2023 land tax year, the discount for early payment of land tax was reduced from 1.5 per cent to 0.5 per cent if paid by the due date on the notice.
Interest-Free Payment plans
Interest-free payment plans are available via our online services, log into your MyServiceNSW Account to opt in for an interest-free payment plan.
Please note, your first instalment will include any overdue amounts, interest or penalties (if applicable).

Monthly plans will receive payment reminders 14 days prior to your instalment due date.
Fortnightly plans will receive payment reminders 7 days prior to your instalment due date. To receive payment reminders on fortnightly plans, please update your communications preference to email.

Note: If Direct Debit is chosen as your payment method, you will be required to review/add bank details and select "Schedule Payment" to activate the direct debit service.
Important payment plan information
Interest-free payment plans must be set up via our online services, you can log into your MyServiceNSW Account or create an account to manage your liability.
A copy of your payment plan will be downloadable as a PDF via the online services once you have accepted the plan. Your first payment will be scheduled on the due date on your notice (60 days from the date of issue).
You may receive a courtesy payment reminder prior to the due date of your instalments, if you have opted for a fortnightly payment plan, you will be required to update your communication preference to digital to receive your reminders direct to your inbox, find out more about Land tax online.
Payment dates are fixed and cannot be amended. If you miss a payment or make a late payment, the plan will be cancelled and interest may apply.
If your circumstances change, resulting in a reassessment, your payment plan and direct debit will be cancelled.
To review an existing payment plan, navigate to the ‘Manage Payments’ screen by selecting the ‘Payments’ option on the overview page.
If you are on a 3 or 6 month plan, you are able to increase your payment plan duration if your instalments are up to date and you meet certain eligibility criteria.
You cannot decrease your payment plan duration, however you can make your repayments early or pay in full at any time.
Setting up a payment plan using your MyServiceNSW Account
You can request a payment plan and schedule a direct debit to make repayments against your plan via your MyServiceNSW account on our online services.

Apply for a refund
If you have overpaid your land tax, or your assessment notice shows you’re in credit, you can request a refund on our online services by following the online services guide.

If you require a payment arrangement that extends beyond 9 months, you can contact our Tax Debt department to discuss your options. Plans that extend beyond 9 months may accrue interest until the balance has been paid in full.
If you have unpaid land tax within the last 2 years, you can request an interest-free payment plan, however you will be required to pay the overdue land tax and a portion of the new liability as the first instalment. If you are unable to meet these obligations or your overdue land tax is more than 2 years old, you may request an instalment plan with tax debt. If you do not manage your land tax by the due date on your Notice of Assessment or adhere to the repayments on your payment plan, you will be charged interest at a premium rate on what you owe, plus additional interest at a market rate (adjusted quarterly).
Any unpaid land tax from the previous year will be included in the total of the current tax year’s notice of assessment.
The total amount of unpaid land tax will also be included in your first instalment if you opt into an interest-free payment plan. If you are unable to make payment of any overdue amount by the first instalment date, please contact tax debt to discuss alternative payment options.
