Revenue NSW offers a range of ways to pay land tax.
Pay in full and receive a discount
If you pay in full by the due date on your notice of assessment (60 days from the issue date), you will receive a 0.5% discount (excluding past interest or penalties).
Interest-free payment plans
You may pay your land tax in instalments.
You can select to pay over 3, 6 or 9 months. Payments may be fortnightly or monthly.
Set up a payment plan
You can set up a payment plan or make a payment in Land Tax Online.
View or change a land tax interest-free payment plan
You can view an existing payment plan at any time in the “Manage Payments” section of Land Tax Online.
If you are on a 3 or 6 month plan you can increase your payment plan duration if your instalments are up to date and you have enough balance to meet the minimum instalment amount of $50 for your chosen payment schedule.
You cannot decrease your payment plan duration, however you can make your repayments early or pay in full at any time.
If you choose to make your instalments early and have a direct debit, the payment will still be debited according to the payment schedule.
Your first payment will be scheduled on the due date on your notice of assessment (60 days from the date of issue) and will include any overdue amounts, interest or penalties (if applicable). Payment dates are fixed and cannot be amended.
A copy of your payment plan will be downloadable as a PDF via Land Tax Online once you have accepted the plan.
You may receive a courtesy payment reminder prior to the due date of your instalments. If you have opted for a fortnightly payment plan, you will be required to update your communication preference to digital to receive your reminders direct to your inbox.
If you miss a payment or make a late payment, the plan will be cancelled, and interest may apply.
Please note
Plans that extend beyond 9 months may accrue interest daily until paid in full.
If you require a payment arrangement that extends beyond 9 months contact us to discuss your options
Make your cheque or money order payable to the Chief Commissioner of State Revenue, and write your name and Client ID on the back.
Changes to payments made by cheque*
From May 2024, a number of banks and credit unions will no longer be producing cheques, this may impact your ability to pay using a cheque at Australia Post. Please contact your bank or credit union for further information.
You must pay your land tax or set up a payment plan by the due date on your notice of assessment.
If you do not pay by the due date or meet the repayments on your payment plan, you will be charged interest at a premium rate on what you owe, plus additional interest at a market rate (adjusted quarterly).
Overdue land tax
If your notice of assessment goes past the due date you will no longer have the option to pay in full and receive a discount or pay by interest free instalments.
You must either pay in full, without the discount or you may request an instalment plan through our tax debt team which may include interest.
Contact us if you need more information or if you are experiencing serious financial hardship.
If you have unpaid land tax within the last 2 years, you can request an interest-free payment plan, however you will be required to pay the overdue land tax and a portion of the new liability as the first instalment.
If you are unable to meet these obligations or your overdue land tax is more than 2 years old, you may request an instalment plan with tax debt.
