You need to register for land tax if the value of all your taxable land is above the land tax threshold, even if you haven’t received a notice of assessment.
If you haven't received a letter or notice of assessment with your client ID and correspondence ID, complete the pre-registration form or contact us.
If you have received a client ID and correspondence ID, you can register online now.
If you’re registering as a company or trust, you will need to call us on 1300 139 816 during business hours.
To complete the form you'll need to provide:
- name and date of birth
- contact details
- your postal address
- foreign person status
- a description of the land you own.
What happens next
Once you have completed your pre-registration we will:
- contact you within two business days with your client ID and correspondence ID
- you can then go online to complete your registration and apply for an exemption (if applicable).
Failing to register for land tax
If you’re liable for land tax but you don’t register or fail to lodge a return, we may charge you interest and apply penalties under the Taxation Administration Act 1996.
