A webinar on the primary production land (PPL) exemption for land tax will be held online on Tuesday July 28 at 4:30pm.

In this session, we’ll provide an overview of what qualifies as primary production land and the key requirements for accessing the PPL exemption.

We will cover the types of activities that may meet eligibility, including using land for:

  • maintaining animals for sale or for their produce
  • cultivating crops to sell
  • growing flowers, orchids, or mushrooms to sell
  • beekeeping to produce and sell honey
  • commercial fishing
  • commercial plant nurseries.

We’ll also explore the core eligibility criteria, including: the dominant use test, the impact of zoning, and where the commerciality test can apply.

In addition, we’ll explain how the exemption may be impacted by activities such as agritourism and renewable energy projects or leases.
