May and June 2026 payroll tax returns

01 May 2026

May return

The May payroll tax return is due by Tuesday 9 June 2026 (due to the public holiday on Monday 8 June 2026). As usual, monthly returns are due by the 7th of each month or the next business day if the 7th falls on a weekend or public holiday.

Scheduled website maintenance

Every year, website maintenance for the annual return impacts the timeframe to lodge your May return.

Payroll Tax Online and the monthly calculator will be unavailable from 5pm, Friday 5 June 2026 to 9am, Sunday 7 June 2026. During this time, the following online services will be unavailable:

  • calculate a monthly return
  • lodge a nil return
  • lodge an annual return
  • view return history summary
  • view payment codes.

Additionally, the monthly calculator will also be unavailable from 5pm, Friday 12 June 2026 to 9am, Sunday 19 July 2026 while we set up for the new financial year.

June return

There is no separate June return. The month of June payroll tax is included in the annual return, which is due by 28 July 2026. No payment is required by 7 July 2026.

Why planning ahead is important

This process occurs annually which means it is important to plan ahead and lodge your returns on time. If you pay payroll tax monthly, you will lodge 11 monthly returns in total, as the June return is included in your annual return.
