Beneficiation is an allowable deduction under clause 3 of the Value of Coal Recovered Ministerial Determination 2024.

The Determination provides for an annual increase in the beneficiation rates for each of the 3 financial years commencing 1 July 2024. This is the final of the three proposed beneficiation rate increases.

From 1 July 2026 the rates of beneficiation increased to:

• coal subjected to a full cycle of washing - $3.85 per tonne
• coal subjected to wet jigging - $2.20 per tonne
• coal crushed and screened but not subjected to a washing process - $0.55 per tonne.

Royalty Online Services will be updated with the new rates, and all coal royalty returns from 1 July 2026 will reflect this change.
